Gloria "Volupta" Pall was Brooklyn born and a real beauty. The ONLY pin up who was working on the 56th floor of the Empire State Building in 1945 when a U.S Bomber Plane crashed into the building, and star of the best segment the History Detectives ever produced. She survived without a scratch. Check it out. She took the stairs.
Before leaving New York, she posed for "Pin up King" Irving Klaw, and as you can see he marketed her photos under the "Lovelies" name for some reason, but maybe a tax dodge. Not to worry, he would cash your money order no matter what name you made it out too. Volupta didn't get any of it. There she is, wedged between the 46 poses of "Evonne" and 60 poses of Shirley Leigh. Of course, Irving spelled her name wrong. They were sold at the low price of 15 cents each…about the same price as a loaf of bread back then. "Daddy? Did you bring home some bread today? The kids are crying…" "NO…I'M DOWN IN THE WORKSHOP…DON'T BOTHER ME!"
Gloria headed to Hollywood, Reno and Vegas…the holy trinity of hot babes looking for fame. She worked a while as "Miss Earl Carroll" at the Earl Carroll Theater! Super strange billionaire Howard Hughes, um…"knew" her.
Fame came knocking on Volupta's door in the shape of a gig on The Twilight Zone…and then the film Ma and Pa Kettle on Vacation! I am going to guess Volupta was a hot farm girl in that one. Best of all? A gig with the King in Jailhouse Rock! ANY gig with Elvis is legendary. Or I should say golden. Gloria's hair is still golden.
All the above is more than enough to place Gloria in the Vintage Sleaze Hall of Fame, but wait, there's more. Read this post today and we will throw in MORE.
Gloria "Volupta" Pall had her own TELEVISION SHOW. In the show, Volupta presented "Corrupta" according to the blue haired bluenoses. Censors, mostly of the Christian and PTA type who have a FAR better idea of what you should find entertaining than you do, forced it off the air. Call up the Museum of Broadcasting and see if they have it. No? Useless.
One of the most popular cover girls in history, and deservedly so, Gloria is not only still around, she has a most entertaining website filled with Hollywood stories, her own books for sale and numerous rare photographs. One book is "My Life in Outer Space" which includes her Twilight Zone script. There are some astounding color pics of her the year she became Volupta, The story of the day when Elvis flipped over her legs (available for $25.00 autographed) and MORE. Twenty examples of her many cover layouts! Best of all? a photo of her with Harpo Marx, one of the most talented and brilliant performers of the 20th Century, who Volupta towers over like the Queen of Pin Ups she was.
Now THIS is a dame. Gloria is a pulp paper doll who is a true survivor.
