An uncredited and amazing short film showing 42nd Street at the height of low!
Two images from the remarkable film on Youtube posted by raulriveraNYC which is otherwise uncredited, but provides outstanding images of the Deuce. Since it will NEVER come back, anyone following this blog will certainly be inclined to view the 3 minute clip. The film is undated, but one can briefly spot the old sign for Hubert's Museum (which figures prominently in the book Hubert's Freaks: The Rare-Book Dealer, the Times Square Talker and the Lost Photos of Diane Arbus. The museum closed in 1965, but the sign remained for a while. One Marquee pitches the film Viva Max, a 1969 release, so I would date it to 1970. Prime time for shopping for a good share of the material posted on this blog!
I would be happy to print any comments or credits to the original, should anyone know the origin and be inclined to contribute.
