See update following post!
Shell Scott! This shamus would stand out like an albino at a nudist camp. Wait, that's the plot of his book Strip for Murder! See?
"Shell Scott gets hired to find a killer in a nudist camp--and he'll look pretty damned silly wearing nothing but his gun!" reads the copy. Well, I hate to tell the editors at Gold Medal, but Shell looks pretty funny anyway, white pubes or not.
Check out the cover with Shell's ruddy cheeks delighting in reddening the cheeks of a blond in the relaunch of "Pattern for Murder" now updated to "The Scrambled Yeggs." What?
Author Richard S. Prather was sorta like John McDonald, whose character Travis Mcgee had a color in each book title...but Shell Scott was void of color! Zip Pigment! Like Andy Warhol, his hair was white at an early age. He did have blue eyes to go with his white buzzy...and tooled around in a yellow convertible trying to score to cure his relentless, persistent case of horny. Never having read one, I hope not to hear from any angry fans here, but I'm sorry..."The crew-cut private eye equally smitten by dames and sudden death, in the middle of a gang war--and nearly getting ground up for breakfast sausage?"

Author Richard Prather returned from the dead to publish The Death Gods just last month! In October 2011, five years after Richard dropped his pen...an unfinished novel, I guess, which was patched up for his MILLIONS of loyal fans, NONE of whom have taken the time to say if it's any good on Amazon for either the Kindle edition OR the hardcover.

I was pleased to receive the following note/correction from Linda Pendleton, who among other things is the publisher of the final Richard Prather novel:
"As the publisher of Richard S. Prather's final novel, The Death Gods, I wanted to correct your comment about an "unfinished novel." The novel was complete long before Richard died. It was not patched up, but thinned out, and every word in the story was written by Richard Prather, except for 12 words (which I added)." Just the facts. Thanks for the mention, though.
My best, Linda Pendleton
